So i have to cut out or way back on feeding my guy oats to get him to go to bed at night. He freely roams during day but i put him in his condo at night for bed. He’s creating too many cecotropes and they are all smashed which is a cleaning nightmare. But i read about a bunny getting a dirty butt from this. Do i need to clean his butt? I think i will choose a less sweet treat to grt him to bed

Bunnies can get poopy butt from too rich a diet and/or too many treats so definitely cut waaayy back. You could always try giving him his daily pellet allowance as his ‘back to bed’ treat. Does he have a favourite vegetable? You could (depending on when you give him veggies) hold some back to give to him at bed time.

If he’s not able to clean himself then you will need to give him a butt bath. Try using a warm washcloth and a little bit of basic soap, dry his bottom thoroughly afterwards.

Thank you for that info. Yes he gets his pellets at bed time but that doesn’t seem enough for his stubborn behind. He doesn’t like to be restricted although i think he loves his bunny condo. I will hold back on his night time Greens and see if that works for his go to bed treat

You can give a bunny a butt bath if his butt is really dirty. You only bathe the butt, then dry it carefully, unless you are certain he won’t get cold. It’s often relieving for the bunny, if there’s a lot of smeared poop on the butt.

Cutting back on oats sounds like a good plan. It sounds like it could be too rich for him.
