Amelia has recently been given access to my studio (500sq ft sewing studio) and she is doing great with the new space, but she keeps munching on the bristles to the broom I have in there. It’s a natural broom so I’m assuming is just straw, is it safe for her? I’ve got it picked up now since I don’t know if it’s safe

She’s got a pretty good set up in there, she has a large cardboard box hide out, litter pan, food dish, water bowl, box full of Timothy hay and 3 fleece blankets, and she has access to the rest of the house from there and can easily go back to her cage if she wants.

        Thanks everyone!

I’ve done a bit of googling and apparently it’s okay for her to play with it, but eating it is bad for them. I wouldn’t risk letting her eat it

It’s not possible to say if the broom is safe. Even if it’s natural bristles, they could have been treated with something. Buns do tend to go for non-food stuff like brooms or the rubber edges of the dust pans. My Yohio ate those rubber edges. I think it’s safest both for the broom and the bunny if you could hang it on the wall or sth, out of reach.

What is it with bunnies and dust pans?! Both of mine will ignore whatever mess they’ve made until I bring out the dust pan and all of a sudden it becomes irresistible and then of course they decide the dust pan itself is just too spectacular to pass up.

I guess it’s about territory. The broom is a bad guy who messes with the bunny’s messes. An intruder. The dust pan helps him. Yohio used to pick fights with the broom – I could hear him growl in the next room, then the broom fell over with a bang and I knew Yohio had once again conquered his enemy =)

Lol, Bam! Bindi hates the little mini broom I use to clean his condo. He growl and lunges at it.

Too funny! She doesn’t care about either

I figured it wouldn’t be good for her and it’s up out of reach now but she is certainly interested in it
