Hello my little 7 month lop had just been spayed and I have just read that she should have paino relief and I have been sent home with none she has eaten plenty since returning home but hasn’t drunk anything she was hopping around a little when she got home and managed to make thensmall jump onto my bed of her own accord, but is now sort of laying in the corner of the room is she going to be OK withour the medication??? Should I request some??

You should request some pain relief. The vet may have given her a shot of something which might last the first 24 hours, but a rabbit needs pain medication for a few days. If she is not drinking, you need to wet her greens before you give them to her.

A rabbit should not be jumping up on anything after surgery. She could tear open her stitches or cause more pain. Keep her confined for the first few days.

Definitely keep her confined or she will hop as soon as she feels she can, which may be sooner than she should. I kept mine confined for 2 weeks.
I didn`t have pain meds either aside from her 24-hour shot, and only heard about bunny pain meds on binky-bunny! My rabbits all healed fine and ate and drank, but I think that keeping them confined in a travel cage on soft comfy bedding, really helped.

When I had Buttercup spayed, the vet said they don’t usually send them home with pain relief but if I felt she needed some after a day or so (when the 24 hour pain relief wears off) I could just call them. I specifically requested pain relief though before we left so I was prepared. So I suppose it’s not unusual to be sent home without any which I don’t understand! I gave Buttercup her pain medication for 5 days. I’d definitely request some, if she’s in pain she likely won’t eat or drink which obviously for a bun can be very dangerous. You must not let her jump on the bed, she needs to take it easy. Buttercup was itching to get out and about after a day or two but we kept her somewhat confined for 2 weeks.

I agree with Sarah. There is research that indicates that rabbits do feel pain after a spay (these things seems very obvious to us, but veterinarians are obliged to rely on scientific findings). There’s also research that says meloxicam (metacam) is a good choice of post-spay analgesic that’s well tolerated by rabbits.

It takes 2 weeks for a girl to heal properly if all goes smoothly.

I know I have read somewhere that buns on a proper pain- relieving regimen post spay get back to eating quicker than buns that don’t get pain meds post spay – but I can’t seem to find it right now.

I told my vet when I dropped my girl off I wanted additional pain meds, my vet only prescribes it if asked. I gave Amelia pain meds for 5 days after her spay, the first three days or so I could tell when the meds would “kick” in in the mornings and she would start moving around more

She seems happy to move around a little here and there though she had a bit of a squishy poo today and there seems to be tiny white tufts in her poor but this may be hay I’m it sure but I am concerned about the poo

I wouldn’t be concerned about slightly off poops at the moment as it’ll be a side effect of the anaesthetic and meds The white tufts, could be from her grooming herself?

I agree once more with sarah, poop irregularities are to be expected after full anesthesia and meds.
