Hello friends, I have a 10 year old male mini-lop bunny. I noticed he had developed some cloudiness in his right eye (2 years ago), so I took him to the vet. She said it was a cataract. It was much smaller during this time period and seemed to be contained to his pupil area. Fast forward to now – it seems that the “Cloudiness” has spread to cover most of his cornea. I have looked through every article and image I can find, but nothing seems to resemble the problem. I took my bunny to the vet 6 months ago for an unrelated problem, and the vet didn’t seem concerned about the cloudiness in his eye, and simply said that cataracts can change over time.

I took some pictures of his eye to get some opinions. (His eye looks a lot worse than it is in these pictures. He has a weepy eye, and we had just put some medicine on not too long ago.)

My question is this – Does this look like a cataract? Is there some other problem going on here that the vet missed? I thought cataracts were confined to the pupil area so I am concerned. Thank you for your time.

Perhaps get a second opinion with another rabbit specialist or ophthalmologist vet.
They can do pressure test in case it’s glaucoma, stain test to see if any injury to the cornea. It might be something like uveitis also. Hard to say!

ETA: May be worth him being tested for E. Cuniculi also.

Yeah, it reminds me of EC cataracts.
