i am convinced that my bunny has ear mites. I have already made an appointment with the vet to treat my actual bunny, but I’m having trouble with knowing how to clean the carpet that his cage is on. The bottom of the cage is carpet, and the rest of the room outside of his cage is carpet. he hops throughout the whole room. I don’t know how i am going to treat the cage and envrironmwnt when it is all carpet. please help! i found out about the mites today, but i want to fix it as soon as possible. thank you!

You can use diatomaceous earth on carpet. It’s a fine powder that dries out the mites and their eggs. You let it sit for 24-48 hours, then vacuum it off. It can be a bit of work to get it all off. The bunny shouldn’t have access to it – it’s non-toxic, but it’s such a fine dust that it can hurt the bunny lungs if breathed in, and it’s obviously not good if the bun ingests it (it’s a type of clay). It’s much used nowadays by pro exterminators for hard-to reach places such as between floor boards and thresholds etc. It’s not harmful for humans, we can even eat it (in small amounts.)
