Help!! My hubby and I are going away and thinking about putting our bunny lenny into a boarding home for the week. The only down side is the boarding home stipulates that the bunny must be neutered.

I know he will need doing at some point but I was just wondering what experiences people have had when neutering. Our vet is specialised in rabbits so that’s not a problem, we just don’t want to do anything that will affect his character. He’s a bit of a nutter but makes us laugh jumping all over the cage and run etc. He is 9 months old. There’s no agression or anything.

Will neutering him take away his crazy side? Do all boarding house request that bunnies are neutered? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!!!

We adopted Theo unneutered at 8 months old and decided to get him neutered pretty much straight away. He was really cuddly with me pre neuter and would buzz round me and hump me on occasion. He was crazy doing binkies etc and I was worried too that it would affect his personality. But it hasn’t at all! For a few weeks post surgery he was aggressive etc due to his hormones being all over the show but after 6 weeks he settled down into a lovely, cuddly, love bug. He loves pats and is probably a little calmer but still gets his crazy energy bursts and does his bunny laps and binkies like he did before. If anything its made him happier and more loving.

Also the neuter procedure is very minor, it only took Theo a couple of days to be back to his old self after the surgery – the only thing to do is keep an eye on the wound and make sure he eats/poops/drinks/stays warm after surgery.

my bun leo just got neutered yesterday, so far so good. But in my past experience with a bun I had years ago, after his neuter his character changed for the better, (but they were only minor changes) I don’t think you should be worried, but every bunny is different. neutering has more pros than cons, which I’m sure you already know. For the boarding house question, I have no idea, but my first thought would be yes? hopefully someone else can help you out that has experience with boarding rabbits.

If anything, your bun might become happier because he isn’t plagued by instincts that he can’t fulfil (mating)

My Peanut hasn’t changed at all – and he’s 3 weeks post neuter. He’s still the cheeky but timid boy he was prior to his surgery. Only thing that’s different is his litter habits have improved!
