We just found out our bun, Clover, has to have surgery on ak abscess. Doesn’t seem too awful right? But she will have to lose an eye in the process. I know it’s what is best but it just gives me an awful feeling. I’m also really stressed about what could happen during the surgery and post op. I just can’t stop thinking about it and it’s really upsetting me.

I can totally understand! What a stressful situation. But if it is in her best interest. Most animals adapt quite well to a handicap, in this case, partial blindness. Usually their other sense kick into overdrive to make up for the loss.

We had a blind cat. The vet said we may eventually have to remove his eyes! It was an awful thought. I can understand why you are so stressed.

Be sure to talk to your vet with any concerns before and after surgery.

Well wishes and get well quick vibes for your little one.

I can very well understand that you are worried and stressed out. As a rule, rabbits do very well with only one eye though. The abscess must be gotten rid of, so if this is the only way to get to it, that’s just how it must be.

I wish you all the best and hope for updates.

Oh yes, I can understand the worry too. Its only natural that you would!

Are you feeling confident about the vet though? When is her surgery scheduled for?

My friend had a rabbit who had his eye removed. It really is amazing how quickly they heal and adjust to the altered vision.

Sending {{{vibes}}} out to your dear Clover!

That is stressful and I’m sorry to hear your bunny is going through this. We are here for you to help you deal.

There was a member here not too long ago who went through this and her bun adjusted and healed quite well.

UPDATE: Clover had her surgery Monday and the Dr said it went really well. They removed the tooth with the abscess and there’s one that has a draining pocket. They also had to remove the eye. She is on 4 medications and we have to feed her with a syringe until she starts eating on her own. Yesterday was her first day back at home and she just seemed really scared; she just sat in the corner of her cage pretty much all day until we had to give her medicine and feed her. I imagine it will take a while for her to adjust to her new vision and I’m just praying we see her personality come back in the next few weeks.

Thank you! The doctor said the bacteria looked pretty localized so hopefully it won’t be able to spread!

I’m glad she’s home again and that the surgery went well. Poor little girl, I hope she’ll adjust soon -animals tend to do that. Many recovery-vibes for (((((Clover)))))
