As you guys know, I will be starting bonding soon, on the 15th of this month which works out as just over a month post Peanut’s neuter and almost 6 weeks post Buttercup’s spay. As you may also know, the pair of them had a brief encounter about a week ago where Peanut proceeded to hump Buttercup.

Anyway, is there a way to tell the difference between humping that is sexually/hormonally driven and humping that is to establish hierarchy? I expect humping to go on when we start bonding but if it’s hormonally driven, I’d rather wait.

Im not sure if it is universal, but with my trio, i did start some bonding between them while only one was neutered. When the two hormonal bunnies would hump, they would grip onto the fur so tight they would often pull the fur from the other rabbit when they were moved from humping. After everyones been neutered, they dont latch their jaws onto eachothers fur nearly as tight. Its also a lot faster, as in, its over quicker. They only really hump for maybe 3 seconds at most now, then get off the bottom bun and demand grooming from them

Ah okay, thank you Mikey. I think Peanut’s humping last week was hormone driven. Hopefully it will have settled by the bonding date
