        Hello,

So recently i have had a look at my rabbits poop in his litter box and it looks very different. It is very small and dry and yellowish brown.

Does anyone know what the problem can be? Is he not getting enough nutrients, he has been eating Timothy hay.

If it would help you identify the problem I can attach a picture of it.

        Thanks

Small poop is never good, it means there’s too little food in his intestines. Dry and yellowish can mean he’s eaten hay but not drunk enough water. If he gets fresh greens you can try serving them freshly rinsed and soaking wet, just so he gets more water in him.
Is he acting normal? Has his appetite gone down lately? Some new food been introduced?

He has really liked the new Timothy hay I bought him yesterday but I don’t think that’s the problem. I lost the wire thing to hang his bottle from so i gave him a bowl of water for a few days now. I did cut down on pellets to increase him eating hay but his diet is back to normal now.

He is acting totally normal and happy though. I do feed him veggies that I wash so he does get that water.

I’m going to see how he goes now and if it carrys on it must be his water intake.

            Thanks bam☺️

It sounds like it’s something that will right itself. When a bunny eats more hay than he usually does, the tummy can have some initial difficulties with breaking down the hay and extracting all the nutrients from it. This is why you should never cut out all other food than hay abruptly -even if the bun eats the hay, it can still starve because it’s tummy is unprepared for complex carbs.

You’ve just cut back on pellets to encourage hay consumption, and that’s the right and safe way to improve hay eating habits. Some poop irregularities can be expected with every dietary change.

                Thanks bam,

He’s eaten his pellets and veggies today and he has hay for the night. Tomorrow morning I will check on him to see how he is but I am sure he’ll be fine.

                Thanks again bam!
