Okay so I got home and checked on my bunny (of course?) and I went in and played with her when she started biting at my clothes.. I left her alone for a while and then came back like an hour later and she came out and had hay in her mouth. Like just a few pieces, she never does anything like this. But as I kept watching she grabbed a LOT in her mouth, and came out and started doing a sweeping motion to the hay sitting by her litterbox. It was like she was cleaning, she’s still acting weird. It’s like she’s possessed, she comes out, grabs a whole bunch of hay in her mouth, goes in her little cardboard box then sets it down and digs at it! What is going on with her? Does anyone know? She’s starting to worry me with this very odd and unusual behaviour.

Nesting, either she is pregnant or thinks she is pregnant. Is she able to get to any entire boys ?

From my last post I am guessing she is going through a false pregnancy. It just doesn’t really seem like it could be nesting, but it always could be She hasn’t been by any male rabbits for over 7 months now, and that rabbit was her brother when she was a baby

Yes, sounds like a phantom pregnancy. She will probably be grumpy and busy building a nest for 3-5 days. Is she spayed ?

I am assuming the hay in mouth looks something like this.

She is not spayed. Today she pulled a bunch of fur out of her dewlap and kept it in her mouth aswell. She didn’t put it in a nest she just kept in her mouth until I got home again? And yes, it did look a quite like the picture.

Getting her spayed will stop her form going through this more routinely as she gets older. It will also prevent uterine cancer with 60% of females rabbits will get by age 3. Her false pregnancy should end in anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. If possible, get her a little box and throw some of her hair and fur tufts into it so she sees it as a safe place to start nesting

I would be concerned as to what has brought this on, since she is a single rabbit.

False pregnancies can occur when there are changes in uterine tissue, cysts, uterine infection, or changes in hormone levels. Recurring false pregnancies can also lead to uterine infections.

False pregnancies are very common in all animals including humans, as Jerseygirl said infections and things can cause this, I have a male rabbit and he sometimes makes nests over night, I don’t know why, only he does, but get bunny looked over by a vet, it might be something or nothing.
