        Hiya!
Im taking my baby to be neutered on wednesday. He’s free range at the moment and hates being locked in his cage. He’s not staying the night at the vets so when he gets home should I lock him in his cage (and if so, how long for?) or continue as normal. Also for feeding should I give him his normal amount of pellets or unlimited?
        Thanks xx

Hiya! I would limit his space a little, my bunnies are free range too but after their surgeries I put a pen up around their hutches. Boys generally recover quicker and that was definitely the case for my little Peanut so I put a pen up around his hutch for about 3 days and then took it down and let him roam as normal. It’s not nice to have to have them ‘cooped up’ but it’s for the best to make sure they don’t overdo it and hurt themselves. It’s worse for girls, I had to limit Buttercup’s space to just her pen for 5 days and then expand it a little for a further 5 days before returning to normal!

It’s very important that he eats so as long as he’s eating something, I wouldn’t worry. Offer him his favourites whether that be his favourite hay, veggies, pellets or treats.

          Good luck!

            Aw thank you so much!
I just haaaate locking him up!! He sticks his little nose through the bars and just stares at me with his big adorable eyes – you know the ones what a relief that he can have a bit of a run!
I just watched a bunny neuter operation out of curiosity… biiigg mistake!! Poor lil guy

I know it’s awful isn’t it, I hated having to keep them in a pen but at least it’s only for a short while Peanut was itching to get out and about pretty much immediately which made it even harder lol. One thing to consider is you might want to move any boxes or anything from his run area just so he isn’t tempted to jump too much. As I say, it’s worse for girls and my little girl Buttercup jumped up on a box the next day lol.

I actually watched a cat spay on TV the other day, it made my uterus cringe lol.

My bun is also free range and she was quite happy to be confined the first 24 hours after she got home. I then got her an enclosed playpen that she stayed in for the next few days so she didn’t have room to do bunny 500s or get big binkies

Haha I’m gonna miss my morning cuddle – he won’t be able to jump on my bed
Good point about the binkies, didn’t think of that one!
                  Xx
