I like the idea of getting a plushy toy for each of my bunnies, mainly so I can swap them over every few days and see how they react prior to bonding. It might also be helpful because Peanut might mount the plush rather than Buttercup when they are put together. I know there will be some mounting/humping going on to determine hierarchy but at least this way I might be able to eliminate any potential sexually driven humping. Who knows. Also I think it would be adorable and it might help them feel less ‘alone’ whilst they’re still apart. Even though I’m at home all the time, the bunnies might wanna snuggle up to something equally squishy and cozy.

Anyway, so would I be better off getting a plushy that’s made for dogs? It would be durable etc or perhaps one that’s aimed at babies? I know to avoid ones that have beans inside them. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you

I have a few cheap fleece dog toys from walmart we used for bonding and overhumping issues with my bunnies Sometimes the bunnies will cuddle them, other times the bunnies just ignore them

As long as they don’t chew on them, it’s fine. I’d avoid anything with “beans” inside and plastic parts like eyes and noses. Some people also prefer the no stuffing kind of do toys.

Stuffed toys made for dogs or babies (all eyes are embroidered and nothing that can come off) are safe. But just a warning. Some buns love their stuffies and groom them without chewing. My Olivia loved her little bear. But some will chew them. I had given one to Bindi years ago, and I believe what happened is the stuffie got stuck in his cardboard house and he freaked out at it and tore it’s head off. This led to him ingesting some material and/or stuffing and developed a very serious case of stasis. We came really close to losing him. Not trying to scare you away from trying stuffies, just keep a really close eye for chewing.

Thank you for the warning and thank goodness your little bun is okay! I’ll stick to toys without anything ‘added on’ (buttons etc) and I’ll let them have it only when I can supervise (which is all day haha) I’ve just bought them fleece blankets and they will be taken away at night til I can be sure they won’t chew them. The plushies I’ll definitely confiscate when I can’t watch them. That’ll be my long term solution after reading what happened with Bindi. I really do appreciate the warning, I never would have thought that could happen.

In a couple of weeks hopefully they won’t need them anyway as they’ll be snuggling together (crosses fingers!)
