I was wondering if there are many people out there that have to house or keep their bunnies separate? Is it common to have to do this due to their distinctive personalities and unable to get along while together?

          Hi AKM,

I have had my buns separate for 4 months now. I think it is very common for people to house buns separately. Do you have two buns that failed to bond?

My sister and I each have a bunny. They have always been separate. One recently got neutered at the end of October, so we haven’t attempted to bond them. They love each other’s company but the moment they get out they just go at it. I don’t mind having them separate. In my opinion it’s easier to keep track of individual health (poo and pee included) and behavior. They share the same space to play in so they are around each other 24/7. They even lay next to eachothers cage to nap. I almost think it’s just not worth the time to bond them when they are somewhat anyways between bars.

I housed Yohio and Bam separately. I wasn’t able to bond them. They lived separated by a gate with double netting. Then Yohio passed so Bam now has the whole apartment. I miss Yohio a lot, but I’m pretty sure Bam doesn’t.

Ok…few! I did adopt bunny #2 last week. Both are spayed females. They did meet over a month ago at the humane society, which went so-so. I feel they will need to live separate for a long time due to aggressive behavior in my first French lop. They will see and be near each other, but not sure if they will ever bond. I was actually ok knowing that bc I feel I want them to each be safe at all times. So for now they each have a cool set-up near each other, not able to touch noses and will have to share the play room. I figured it would be nice for them to at least ‘see’ another bun.

I plan to house mine in same room ( seperate cages )
I have a boy who’s 9weeks and we were going to get a doe same age and eventually bond after spay / neuter but I’m too scared … I’ve gone back and forth about it for last 3 months.
I’ve now decided he is very happy on his own – his cage is in the lounge so he is with us all the time and has a playpen for evenings ( when the kids are in bed from 6.30 until around 2am when I go to bed) so he doesn’t lack company for sure!

I just really want another bunny – so I’ve to get another and house in seperate cages ( opposite sides of lounge ) seperate playpens for nights

I feel it suits us and the buns better than bonding would and I can still give two Amazing bunnies great lives

I agree Oakleys mama! I feel my first is super content by herself but I wanted to adopt another to give them both a good home. I think my second bun would benefit from a bunny companion but they are living happy separate and love when they each get their play time. I feel the bonding process may just stress them out and me as well!

Are yours both bucks? Or one of each ?
How are you finding it housing them seperately ?
I’m going to look at a litter of both this either today or Wednesday and I’m still undecided haha !

My two boys are kept in the same room. Bindi is in a condo and Sterling is in a pen. They both get along great through the bars. Was unable to bond them but I think they are happy neighbors. They come out for separate run time.

I now have two spaid adult females I adopted. My first has her own small room and the new one is in a puppy pen enclosure just outside her room. They can see each other but are not close to touch noses. I actually like my routine taking care of each and don’t find it anymore work. During play time I have to make sure they cannot get near the others enclosure bc my first will try to fight through the gate. She is settling down, but I double gate otherwise they can bite. Maybe in time they can be friends, but I’m not too worried since everything works out fine now. They seem to get a little jealous, but I make sure they both get a lot of attention. I love taking care of them though! I can only imagine how exciting it is picking out a Baby bunny!
