Hi!.. Im a new rabbit owner and Im just terrified of everything right now.. Basically, I finally bonded with my rabbit, he was always happy to approach me when I came home, along with sniffing me and crawling around on me when I was sitting on the floor. However, the first problem I ran into was he kept having these sneezing fits. He’d have around 5 of them per day, in a row of 3-7 sneezes, but now its gone down to around 1-2 sneeze fits. And now onto the main thing that scared me badly, I was on my laptop doing classwork (Im homeschooled), and I was jolted awake when my rabbit darted across the room and hit my closet door. I was worried about him being injured, so I was moving up off my bed, and then he darted back towards his cage (I forgot that I had left it closed for cleaning.. That was a mistake of my own..) and he was pawing trying to get inside. So, assuming thats what he was really wanting, I went over and opened his cage, and by this time he was cowering in a corner. Im not sure what happened, as I left the room to ask my grandmother if it was normal, and when I returned back, he was in his litterbox munching on timothy hay.. Is this stuff normal..? It scared me horribly. Hes a baby cream-coat rex.

          Hello,

How long have you had him?

My rabbits when I first got them would run into walls. I have no idea why they did this but it seemed they would get so excited (or have so much energy) they would run around and then accidentally run into things. I figured this was just part of them getting used to their surroundings. They have stopped doing it now – it took about a month.

He may have just been cowering in the corner as he scared himself – and felt it was his safe place. Does he have a hidey-hole or tunnel to hide away in? That might help. He may have calmed down and thats why he went back to his timothy hay!

I am not sure about the sneezing though! Maybe find a good local vet if it’s happening everyday.

Sneezing fits 5-7 in a day, Olly has more, sometimes it is dust or some scent he can smell.

Sometimes bunnies can hear things that we can’t and it frightens them. Sometimes even if we’re being quiet, the slightest sound can startle them. My Peanut jumped the other day because it was completely silent and I adjusted my position on the sofa but he has also sneezed and startled himself lol. He’s a very timid bun. I think he does best when there’s some noise in the background. Otherwise it’s too silent and then every little noise is amplified if that makes sense so I have started having the TV on in the background just so there’s something going on.

The sneezing could be from hay – if it’s a little dusty it can trigger a sneeze and if your bun is partial to sticking his face in the hay that could trigger a sneeze too.

He was probably adjusting to the environment.

                  How is he doing now?
