        Hi everyone,

I am going to be leaving tomorrow (December 30th) for a family visit. It will be about a 5 hour drive one way. I am humming and hawing over the idea of taking them or leaving them at home. I do have confident bunny sitters if I do choose to leave them at home.

Question: Has anyone travelled this long with bunnies? It is winter here, so I know about keeping the interior of the car a constant, regular temperature and avoid exposing the buns to drafts. I am mostly worried about the length of travel. The buns will be in separate carriers and will have their cages set up at my family’s house as they would here.

Is it worth the trouble? Any advice or travel recommendations are appreciated!

        Thank you.

Ps. We have travelled with them before a few times, but it is only for a 2 hour drive (one way). I have noticed they don’t seem to drink water when they are in their carriers. Is that normal?

Another note: We will be leaving Friday night (maybe even Saturday morning) and coming back Monday late morning. About 3 days in total.

I, personally, would leave them with the sitters if you are happy with their ability to care for your rabbits. I went away for four days over Thanksgiving and Christmas and was happy I decided to leave Olaf home both times. He didn’t need to go through the stress of car travel and was right back to his normal self when I got back. I think if your trip was longer than your carrier and cage idea is a good one but for three days it may just be easier for all of you to leave them where they will be the least disrupted (and you the less worried). Good luck!

I think that is a good idea! It is definitely a stressful time for them. We took them with us to family (the 2 hour drive) just last weekend for Christmas so maybe it would be a better idea to keep them in their own home.

              Thank you.

I travel regularly with my bun, longest trip has been 9.5 hrs. Now with that said she loves to travel, she visits my mom about every week (10 min drive), and she likes to go to the pet store. She is a bit of an odd bunny, we are all pretty sure she thinks shes a dog like her ‘brother’. She hops right into her travel carrier if we ask her if she wants to go, just like the dog does

                  Hey Jessica,

How old is your bun? And when you travel, do you bring a play pen with hideouts or her full cage set up?

We decided to leave them home this weekend but I’m thinking for the future.

                  Thanks!

My bun is 19 weeks old today. When I’m just headed to my moms for the day, I just bring her playpen, a litterbix, toys, blankets, food, dishes and hay. When we are going somewhere for a few days I bring all of that plus her travel sleeping cage
