So 2017 is coming in, that means that it has been about a year since my bunny’s last checkup… the reason we took her to the vet was because she was getting spayed. Currently, my bun-bun is perfectly healthy and needs no medical attention. I just wonder if I should take her to the vet anyways. If I should take her yearly that is. Are bunnies like dogs and cats which need to have the checkups regularly?

Bunnies can get sick and hide it very well because they are prey animals, so a check up is always good and to have those injections and boosters.

Mari and Lilo, it’s of course not a bad thing to take your bun yearly to the vet for a check-up. It’s probably more important when the bun gets into its senior years.

The injections and boosters Charlies Angel mentions are for rabbits in Europe and Australia, not the USA and Canada. Routine health checks are done here when you get your buns vaccinated (it’s the same for dogs, really) – the vet listens to the heart and lungs, check over the teeth briefly, feels the body over – but if you’re in countries where no vaccines are needed, your buns don’t get that yearly vet inspection.

It depends to an extent on the vet you have. If you have access to a good rabbit savvy vet who knows what to look for specifically in a rabbit, I think it’s a good idea to take the rabbit for routine check-ups.

I plan to take mine at least once a year for their booster vaccinations – they give a check over on them when they do the jabs anyway. I might take them every 6 months though.

Ok thanks for all your advice! I do have a rabbit savvy vet and I trust her very much. I’ll definitely start considering taking my bunny to the vet yearly. Thanks again! ?
