Habitat flooring

Right now i have made my bunnies cage using the wire storage grids. Underneath i put a cardboard box with puppy pads taped to it and a fleece blanket taped around that. But my girly is chewing through the fleece only in one corner. Is their any other cheap flooring i can get that i can put underneath her cage? That is well affordable and clean up is fairly okay die to her not being spayed and litter trained. ( i dont think she ever was so i am trying currently). Any ideas?

The ground floor in Nibbles’ condo is cardboard, underneath that are puppy pads. She is litter box trained but there are always spills from her water bowl! The cardboard is pretty easy to change and luckily I can get boxes to cut up from work when I need to replace it. Markets will give you boxes also if you ask. The upper levels are wire grids covered with cotton towels and some fleece and flannel blankets – all washable when needed.

I read on House Rabbit Society that cotton towels are okay for them. Nibbles likes to chew on those and will shred the cardboard flooring. Maybe switching to towels? Since I added a cardboard house on the first floor she is more interested in ‘redecorating’ that than chewing the flooring…

I was thinking of the plastic cardboard flooring. Just so even if she chews the blanket at least she is not eating the cardboard

You can use linoleum. You can get it cut to measure at most hardware stores, if you extend it beyond the edge of the cage, she won’t be able to get a hold on it to chew it up. It’s very easy to clean although it can be slippery at times and some rabbits have trouble adjusting.

I started with fleece blankets since blake and the little ones have been using the litter box!!!

My first bun refused to go on lino, but all six current buns have no problems with it. But they can get hold of it to chew, even if it is completely flat and they can’t reach the edges. I have a sizeable hole chewed by Snickers when she first arrived, right in the centre of the dining room. I put a big brick over that patch, to stop the hole getting any bigger, and Snickers and Mini use the brick to sit on now.

How is the anti fatigue mat working for you? I have been researching something like this to switch to. Currently I use towels but that fix is fading fast lol my mom suggested ” car mats” like you put in the garage for nice cars which seem to be similar to the mat you suggested. Do they chew it? I am afraid to swap to linoleum because she’s real sensitive about changes and has used towels her whole life, I am afraid she won’t like suddenly slipping around. Anyways, any advice appreciated! Thanks!

I ordered some offline waiting for them to arrive so far i have been using fleece and it has been working she is potty trained and has had little accidents

I wouldn’t touch an antifatigue mat with my buns… They devour linoleum, so a mat? Wow. Wouldn’t try it. Avalon and Morgana chewed a 2ftx4ft hole in the lionoleum and left me hundreds of tiny pieces of linoleum. For that pair – I put plywood down to cover the hole. I gave up on giving them fleece – they shred it. I still give them cotton towels. Guin and Lancelot have carpet with pee pads. I removed the linoleum coz Guin also chewed it up, but she is easy on carpet, although Lancelot has no bladder control, hence the pee pads. Avalon and Morgana devour pee pads. They also have 2×4 timber along the floorboards to keep the moulding safe. They don’t get carpet coz they rip it up, then they rip up the underlayment, then they expose the floorboards and the nail strips. I need to replace all my carpet, so I’ll go with hardwood floors next. Each bunny is different. Mine woudl devour cardboard too. I would try linolium or plywood if I were you.

So far the lino mat is great i did cover it with fleece. Because blake kept thumping until the fleece was placed back in weird spoiled girl. But so far with her being neutered she has loterally stopped chewing everything lol and litter training is great. But i love the mat!!!

The mat has worked great with Luna. It’s soft for her feet and keeps her from slipping around. We have hardwood floors through our whole house so I had to get 2 big rugs to put down in her room so she could run around. She is such a good girl when it comes to chewing on things. I am really amazed how well behaved she is. I don’t want to jinx myself. She has a lot of toys and stuff to chew on. Her cottontail cottage is one of her favorites.

Morgana and Avalon have just chewed through another 6-foot section of linoleum – so I’m going to have to put more plywood down this weekend… But I want to get a picture of it to post first 🙂
