        Hello,

My name is shay and these are my fur babies, I inherited what I thought was both males from a friend but it ended up being well a boy and a girl. Sadly my neighbor took back the male due to it being her mothers but I kept the female and the babies. I am new to this rabbit scene and I am trying my best to be a fur baby mommy. I have two dogs who currently stay outside until I can get the rabbits accustomed to the house. Any advice will be taken so please do not hesitate. I built their own cage and its placed in my room and trying to litter box train my blake ( my toddler named her

Hello and welcome to Binky Bunny. It’s not always easy to litter box train a rabbit who hasn’t been spayed or neutered, so you may not be completely successful with Blake using the litter box until she has been spayed.

I can’t tell how old the babies are from the photos. When they get to be around 12 weeks old, you will need to determine their gender and separate the males from the females, otherwise you will end up with more babies. And when the babies are that age and start entering puberty, you may not be able to keep any of them together, regardless of their gender. When rabbits start dealing with hormones, that can bring on aggression, which can lead to fighting.

I don’t see any hay in their cage, but maybe it’s not visible in the photos. Rabbits do need access to hay at all times.

If you haven’t already checked out the BUNNY INFO link at the top of the page, it should be very helpful to do so. There is a lot of information on all the basics of rabbit care. Feel free to ask any specific questions that you may have. The members here like to help their fellow bunny parents.

Yes i put in the hay after. I am getting blake spayed in a couple weeks due to well funding the only place i can find in las vegas charges 240 . I am building another cage for the babies to seperate them until we can provide them with forever homes. I am still researching how to sext them.

Here are a few links that I found, showing how to determine the gender of rabbits. There may be better ones, but these were among the first results. The last one is a video featuring Mary Cotter of the House Rabbit Society.

One other way to determine the gender is to examine all of the babies. Some of them are going to look one way and the other bunnies will look a different way. That might not be as accurate, but it should allow you to separate them into 2 groups. You could also have a vet try to sex them, but of course, there would be a charge for that, and sometimes vets can be mistaken.

There is a chapter of the HRS in Las Vegas: http://lv-hrs.org/. They have 2 vets listed on their site.  The chapter may also be able to help you with sexing the babies.

                Hi and welcome.

I see you have a nice big bottle… i know that my buns prefer to drink from a bowl ( a heavy one like a dog ceramic bowl or a low plant pot !!) but I’m not sure how that should be done if you have babies in the pen. You dont want them stumbling in and drowning. On the other hand you want mum to be nice and hydrated….

Hi! Cute pic of Blake and her babies all cuddled up to her. Is there 4 babies in the pic? I can’t tell from all the black and white camo going on.

All those little buns, so cute! Why do you think she’s pregnant again?

Because before we knew she was a girl we had them both together. And after all the research it said she could get pregnant again right after giving birth. I am unsure how long they wer in the cage together after giving birth. I did not notice the babies until 7pm

Ohhhh. I didn’t know they were in the cage together after she had the babies. You mentioned you are taking care of them until you find them forever homes; do you know if there are any rabbit rescue organizations near you that could help you find forever homes?

That I am unsure of. I am also trying to find a place that is affordable to get my female fixed ( our funding is very limited due to us wanting to buy a house and fixing our credit) So I am currently researching I am having a hard time finding something in Las Vegas? any ideas?

The Las Vegas chapter of the House Rabbit Society will likely not take owner surrendered rabbits, but they may know of some other options for you to try in order to find homes for the bunnies. They have 2 vets listed on their site.

I will try this I think the cheapest I found for spay was maybe 145. I do not want to sell the babies but make sure they go to homes that know the commitment that comes with it ( i am still learning but no backing out). Due to her not being litter trained i have not let her out much. ( I have a toddler that crawls on the ground and my mother in law would die if he ate a pellet lol) but I do take her outside in the backyard after I place the dogs in the garage. But I want to make sure they go to good homes.

                                  Welcome Bambii
You certainly have your hands full! Fingers crossed Blake is indeed not pregnant again. How old are the babies now? Is she needing some space from them?

Here are some additional links for Vegas area:
                                  http://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Nevada
http://www.spayusa.org/clinic-resources/nevada.php#clark There may be rabbit savvy vets that work with the SpayUSA program so it’s worth ringing around.

I have extended the cage to give her some seperation because last night i noticed she kept trying to run from them. I did sell some of my personal items to buy better hay and feeding based off what i read on here. Should i bath the mom?

No, bathing is not necessary. Rabbits do a great job of cleaning themselves up. Bathing is stressful for them and should only be reserved for when they are badly soiled from urine and loose faeces (a butt bath may be all that is needed in that case) or if they got covered in a harmful substance.
