My male holland lop is 11 months oldish and as of now, not neutered (I’m trying to get him neutered in the next week or two). I’m a college student so I brought him home with me for the holidays a couple of days ago and have noticed that he’s been friendlier, cuddlier, more adventurous, and more active since we got here. I figured part of it was just that he has more space to run around here, but today he’s been humping me & everything else he can find non-stop.

He should’ve become sexually mature months ago but he’s never shown any signs like aggression or spraying, any idea why he would become so suddenly desperate to mate? And is it still okay to have him neutered at this age?

        PS Happy holidays!

Some rabbits are late bloomers. It seems like yours is one of them. The excitement of a different location and having more room may have played a part in it also. It’s perfectly fine to have him neutered at his age.

          Happy Holidays to you too!

            Thanks, good to know!

One more question, does a rabbit’s behavior change after neutering, other than to curb the sexual aggression? I’m loving how adventurous and cuddly he’s been, it’s a big change from his usual lethargic grumpiness, will that change?

No, the changes after a neuter concern sexual behaviors, like humping and marking territory. The bunny keeps his personality. There is a phenomenon known as a “post-neuter craze” though that in some bunnies occurs right after a neuter and lasts a couple of weeks. The bunny’s sexually driven behaviors actually become worse during this period. It’s about fluctuating hormone-levels in the blood. It doesn’t happen with all buns, but if it does with your bun, know that it’s perfectly normal and will subside.
