I’ve never been on this site but don’t know where else to go! I’ve been babysitting my friends bunny for two months now (she is about 3 months old) and she is allowed to roam freely around my room but I let her out last night and found a hair tie on the floor this morning with bit of it missing. I’ll post a picture down below of the hair tie with a different coloured intact one to show you how much she ate. She seems pretty normal, I’ve given her some lettuce the owner gave me to feed her every once in a while and she has ate that along with her normal food. I’m also giving her hay right now since I read about some people’s bunnies eating plastic and they give them hay to help digest. Please help! I’m not sure what to do!

The good thing when rabbits eat stuff they shouldn’t is that they tend to chew it very well. As a rule, they don’t swallow stuff whole like dogs do. The risk of foreign-body GI obstruction is for that reason very much smaller with a bun.

Hay is good, and since she’s still eating and acting normal, chances are good nothing bad will come of this. There’s not a lot you can do except encourgae her to eat hay and drink water, and keep feeding her what you have been told to feed her, and monitor her. If she stops eating and/or pooping, she will need to see a vet. Hopefully that won’t happen. Bunnies often eat stuff they’re not supposed to and get through it without a problem.

Yup, Bam’s onto it as always Buffy is pretty good at not eating things she isn’t allowed, but my last rabbit ate a rubber band the week after I got him. I was terrified and stayed up all night to make sure he was okay, but absolutely nothing went wrong. Bunnies are fragile, but foreign objects usually don’t cause much of a problem unless the buns eat a lot of whatever they shouldn’t. Always try to keep things away from them as best you can, but no one is perfect, accidents happen, and all we can do is monitor them to make sure they’re behaving normally and get them to the vet as soon as they don’t.
