Hello! This is my first post here.

My bunny Faye is a one-year-old dwarf mix doe. When I adopted her, she weighed 3.4lbs. I don’t have a scale at the moment so I’m unable to weigh her, but lately I’ve been thinking she might have a little extra chub…

The site wouldn’t let me upload the pictures of her directly, so here is a link: http://m.imgur.com/GT7tdKq,uTMCnJG,4Phj1EM,WT17Kt0,HgcxC1N

Faye has unlimited Timothy hay (from small pet select) throughout the day. As per her adoption agreement, she receives two salads a day of about 1 cup lettuce each and a tiny bit of banana. She lives in a 16 square foot x-pen and gets out a few times a week, for 2 hours at a time.

If anybody has questions on her diet/exercise, I’ll be happy to answer.

Any guidance on her weight/what to do if she is overweight would be greatly appreciated!

          Hi @LittleMissFaye!

Her diet sounds alright. I have been checking dietary recommendations for my bunny lately, and what you give her doesn’t sound as too much. Did you adopt her recently? Maybe she is still stressed about the change and less active? (just guesses here). Does she have something to play with in the x-pen? Like to jump on, etc.? That could help her.

Thanks Yilina! I adopted Faye in May, so it’s been at least six months now. A few months after I got her we took her to the vet, and he said everything was fine (and she still weighed the same then). Since then, however, she’s seemed chubby to me!

In her x-pen she has a box hidey house and a paper bag (also to hide in), her litter box, and loooots of toys. She used to jump up on top of her box, but now she seems more keen on ripping up the carbord in her pen, lol

If your bun travels well I’m sure your vet wouldn’t mind you bringing her in to do a quick weight check. My vet just asks that we call ahead and they will weigh her for me. I also have a friend who works as a receptionist at a local dog and cat only vet, but they love when Amelia visits and they will also weigh her.

If you are worried about her getting a bit pudgy try upping her activity level, more free time out and exploring. Maybe try some activities like clicker and target training. Try changing up her toys like getting her a tunnel. Amelia has a very short attention span so we try all kinds of things

                Hi @LittleMissFaye!

I just had this crazy idea. Maybe she looks chubbier because she “molted” to her winter coat? If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, she had just changed to her summer coat when you adopted her and she may have appeared thinner (I hope I expressed myself properly, English is my fourth language :S).

Anyway, as @Jessica said, the best way to know is to have her weight checked . Also, one thing we do to help our rabbit exercise is to put his food in the second level of his cage. Like this, he needs to get into his cage and climb to the second level every time he wants to eat. Also (and this a bit ridiculous), Tambor loves running after us. So, we start running around the house and he copies us .
