Crate house

We found dog crates for $20 (1 door) & $30 (2 doors) each during Cyber Monday. It was more work than I expected to detach a door from each end, but very doable. I”m not completely happy with the way I placed the ramp, but I think it will work. We were expecting to have to add supports for stability, but once we zip tied them all together it really didn’t need it.

Right now during bonding, the slipperiness of the trays is working to our advantage. But I think in the long run we will want to make it a nicer walking surface for them.

Have they ventured to the upper level much yet?

Silas only was in it the first day while we were trying to bond them. He figured out how to go up and down the ramp in about 5 minutes. Jasper has been in it since Friday, and he has not gone up or down it once on his own. If we put him in the top section, he refuses to even go near the hole. I’m actually wondering if he’s afraid of heights or something. I’m going to have to figure out how I can modify the ramp so he will use it.

You might have to put a small landing area at the top of the ramp. Ive tried to mark out where I mean on your photo. If something was placed there, would the gap be 1) large enough for them still to go through and 2) small enough for them to hop across from landing area to rest of upper level?

Now my husband wants to add a third level, but we are both hoping this cage will just be temporary setup on the way to letting Jasper free roam as a bonded pair with Silas.
