Has anyone else recently found dead grasshoppers in their hay? Usually, I rarely see one (and if I do it’s only 1), but lately I’ve been finding one to several in my timothy hay bales – even when the brand/distributor is different. Luckily I haven’t touched one yet

Ick, never. Where do you get your hay? Small Pet Select is usually good, and while pet store hay isn’t in huge bales and can be dusty, there’s never any snakes or grasshoppers in there.

That does seem unusual… I buy my hay straight from farmers. It’s horse/rabbit quality and come to think of it have never seen bugs in the hay, which after this post I’m kinda surprised about. How odd haha

I doubt it’s terribly uncommon in certain conditions. When the weather has been right for grasshoppers to be successful, they are very common in fields of grain or other grasses as it’s what they feed on. So to find a few dead ones baled hay simply suggests to me that conditions have been good for grasshoppers. They won’t do any harm, and I doubt your bunnies would even touch it if you accidentally missed one when feeding hay.

The protein wouldn’t hurt them even if they did munch one haha. I work at a park and we saw a deer eating a MOUSE the other day. It could be a reality tv theme “Herbivores Gone Rogue” lolol

Never? You are so lucky! Funny you should mention SPS bc they (two…so far) were in my SPS bale .

I’m squeamish so I’m glad. I’d scream if I touched one!

Huh, I guess conditions are just good, like Az said.

I’ve never found anything unusual in my hay bags, thankfully!
