My rabbit had her spay done a week ago today. She is finally back to her normal self but she can’t seem to leave her stitches alone. I think there is a bit of a reaction to the stitches (they are internal) as there is a bit of hard swelling underneath them. She has a check up with the vet in 3 days. I have applied a warm compress to try to help her but it hasn’t distracted her. My question is, can rabbits wear socks and still regulate their temperature okay? How long can she safely wear it for? It isn’t obstructing her accessibility to cecals, only her stitches. It is a sock onsie that is made for cats/kittens so it fits well, but I worry she will overheat.

        Thank you!

If it only covers her stitches I wouldn’t worry too much about overheating.

It sounds like she may have a little infection. My girl had a hard little lump develop under the incision about a week later as well and it turned out to be an infection between the skin folds. She was given oral antibiotics and topical cream.

Thank you for your reply LittlePuffyTail!

The sock covers her whole body, but has holes for her bum, hind legs and front legs. I am not sure what else to use to deter her from biting and licking, as the E collar was a disaster. I will call the vet in the morning and see if they can see us. It seems to be really bothering her because she won’t leave it alone.

After 7 days to all of a sudden be irritated, you definitely could be right about the idea of an infection.
