Who is boss in your bonded male/female pairs ?

So Zou (female) and Henry are in the process of being bonded by someone with more experience than I (not hard!) and she mentioned something that I thought could make for an interesting (short) thread.

She said that the male is generally ‘top bun’ (ie, dominant) in a male/female bonded pair.

Is that true in our very own BB members’ bonded pairs ?

Guinness, the lady bun, most definitely.

Bleu tried humping her and claiming dominance throughout the bonding period and got most of the grooming so we thought for a long while that’s how it’d go. However, towards the end, Guinness changed her mind and not only tried humping but was pushing for more grooming back from Bleu (even though she still gave lots and lots of bunny kisses to him anyway). Then we moved them into her pen and that settled that – Guinness basically made clear he was only there because SHE wanted him there.

They’re a pretty equal pair in general, though, but Guinness can easily exert her dominance whenever she wants. Especially since she has about a pound and a half on Bleu.

Chewie (female) is definitely top bun in my pair, she goes through (thankfully not too long) phases of humping poor Woolly non-stop. Woolly grooms her a lot and even gets pushed out of the way when they’re eating hay in their litter boxes (though that being said, he doesn’t let her take his treats and will sometimes steal hers!). Woolly is very clam while Chewie is definitely whizz-ier and a wee bit bossy.

Pepper, my Silver Marten X. The smallest of the lot. She rules the warren with an iron paw in a velveteen glove. Even her husbun Piglet bows before her ladyship.

We’ve created several successful pairs, but it always seems like the ladies run the show. Most of the husbun are graciously patient with their bossy wives and the love seems pretty mutual.

Our three boy/girl bun pairs  all have very different dynamics

Pippi and Jenny – Jenny is undisputed boss, Pippi is totally submissive to her, though seldom grooms her.

Podge and Gina – this was a big surprise, when on day 4 of bonding, Gina accepted the submissive role, leaving the placid Podge as top bun

Mini and Snickers – no clear top bun here, though Mini thinks he is the boss, Snickers says nope, its her who is. Mini is the only boy who regularly grooms his gal.

I think it depends who you ask. Luna does all the mounting, but Apollo demands and gets 95% of the grooms and chases Luna to nip her butt I’m pretty sure Luna is boss, Apollo is just a love sponge.

We’re also in a bonding process, but there’s almost no dominance signs. The only mounting occurance was when they were first introduced by Winter. After that, it’s just been eh with dominance.

Well, reading the above witness accounts of worldwide buns’ domestic arrangements ( ) i can only deduce one thing (Sherlock ) and that is that my bunny bonder’s believe and statement about the male (always) being topbun is based on bunnies in the South East of England, UK, only !!!
