  I have been asking a ton of questions here without even properly introduce Tambor. How rude!
  
  Our rabbit’s name is Tambor, the Spanish translation for Thumper, Bambi’s rabbit. My husband had wanted a rabbit for most of his life, but we had had a very nomadic lifestyle until now and we didn’t want any pet to have to endure the constant moving. About 3 years ago, we decided on immigrating permanently to Reunion Island, a French territory next to Madagascar, in the Indian Ocean. Reunion looks very similar to Hawaii and we have similar landscapes and features.
  
  Tambor was my husband’s 30^th birthday present. We got him from a family that was moving back to mainland France and couldn’t take him with them. Animal shelters do not have rabbits here –only cats and dogs. We didn’t want to buy a rabbit and preferred to adopt, so it took us a long time to find one. His former family loved him very very much, but hadn’t done much research on how to take care of rabbits. So Tambor was living in a very small cage, with no litter box, was left out of his cage only 2 hours a day and had never eaten vegetables before, only those muesli mixes. He trembled (and still trembles) a lot when faced with anything slightly new or when kept a bit longer than usual in his cage. This breaks my heart, but he is getting better.
  
  He was born on sept 2015, measures 40 cm from nose to tail and weights 1.400 kg. He has a very sweet personality, never bites, scratches or shows anger, not even when we took him to the vet! (He was very scared, though). He doesn’t chew on anything (and we have tried to give him stuff to chew on), just on a fleece blanket once. He loves, in this order, exploring (we call him “Dora the explorer”, he will stop anything if he sees he can explore a new part of the house), petting (he demands it with strong head pushes and comes to us every time we sit on the floor) and food (he is eating rocket, hay and pellets now). Both my husband and I are teleworkers, so we spend our working hours at home, he is hardly ever alone. He lives in my husband’s office and sleeps in his cage at night. We plan on having him free-range in the future, but we are working on his potty training now.
  
  We have fallen in love with him, deeply. When we go out, we talk non-stop about his antics and miss him . We didn’t know a rabbit could be so loving and that we would start caring for him so quickly. He has stolen our hearts, and we love hearing him purr and being licked by him . Below there are a few pictures of him, the first proper ones since we got him (he is camera shy). What breed do you think he is?

  He does appear to have a bit of a mane so I’m guessing he has some lionhead in him.

  Thank you for replying! Yes, I also reckon he has some lion-head in him, although he doesn’t look as hairy or fluffy as lion-heads do. He also had some very long hair in the middle of his head, but his former owner cut it before she gave him to us. She nicknamed him “Elvis” because of that. I hope it grows back <3.

  The really fluffy ones you see in pics are probably double-maned lionheads. It’s even possible to have a no mane lionhead (maneless??) if a rabbit doesn’t receive a copy of the mane gene from its parents.

  Lionhead I reckon – I would say he is pure – or close enough to it!

  Oh my goodness!!! He’s so cute! I am so happy that he has found such a loving home with you!!!!! I also think he is a lion head. BTW Tambor is also thumper in Portuguese. ?

  Thank you all for your help on determining his breed . We are growing more and more in love with him every day and appreciating how wonderful having a bunny in our lives is <3.

  Tambor is quite possibly the cutest thing I have seen all day! He’s such a stunner. Definitely Lionhead breed or heavy mix of.
