One of my two bunnies, Iggy, knows how to jump in and out of the litterbox without making a mess.

The other bunny, an angora named Ziggy, has always been a bit clumsy; when she jumps out of a litterbox, poop flies everywhere. Before they were bonded, I used to vacuum her pen every day, but only had to vacuum Iggy’s once a week.  Now that they’re together, I have to vacuum their combined pen constantly. For a while I assumed it was because of her long fur, but even when i keep it nearly as short as Iggy’s and she still can’t seem to jump out of the box without launching 5-10 poops at a time which adds up quickly.  I don’t think it’s intentional since her jumping has always been a bit.. special. On the plus side, she doesn’t actually poop outside the litterbox.  I feel bad for Iggy too because she liked to keep her own pen very tidy.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to stop her from making a mess when she jumps out of the box?

You didn’t say what type of litter box you are using. If you are just using a regular cat litter box, the sides may not be high enough, and you should look for one with higher sides. Also, if you keep the level of the litter at a lower height, maybe the box would contain the poop better.

My mini-lop is very similar with her clumsiness and poop-scattering. Her jumps are quite special, too. It definitely helped getting a litter box with high sides, like tobyluv’s mentioned. I keep a dust-pan and brush handy at all times which helps for speedy clean-ups.

Thanks. I think the box I use has pretty high sides. It’s one of the biggest ones I could find, and it’s definitely higher than the other ones I had. Do you happen to know the brand of the one you use?

I got mine off of Amazon UK, it was called “Smart Cat Corner Litter Box”, the sides are 8 inches high. I just started following you on instagram, your buns are adorable!

I think angoras fuzzy feet just add to the clumsiness! I keep Amelia’s sanitary area very neat and trimmed but she has the same issues

Thank you! Just wanted to quickly add, although the litter box I have definitely helps, poops still get scattered, just to lesser degree – I didn’t want to promote something that might not be a complete solution.

My Mini Lop is the same. If I’m sitting near his litter box, I often get poops flung at me….

                        Your picture made me laugh.
