Boyfriend changed the bunny’s litter trays this morning and said all poops were normal. Just now though I have spotted a couple of weird poos in Buttercup’s litter box.

At the top is a normal poop, followed by a really small one and two giant ones. All other poops in her tray are normal. She’s eating and drinking as normal and in terms of the amount of poop, that’s normal too. What could this be? The poop looked normal inside when I squished it.

Looks like a couple double poops. It could be the affects of her recent spay.

Is it something to be concerned about? In all other ways, she is absolutely fine but these giant poops have scared me a little.

Probably not just yet. With a combination of recent surgery, meds, stress and maybe not moving around as much, it’s not surprising the gut may have slowed down a bit. If you continue to see it happen though, then I’d chat to the vet about it.

Okay, thank you. I’ll keep an extra close eye on her. The other day, something really scared her (still don’t know what) and she stomped and then froze completely in fear. Do you think that may be a factor?

I don’t think you need to worry. Weird poop is common after a spay. It can take several weeks for the tummy to get back into perfect order again. Just keep an eye.

Will do! I didn’t realise it could take weeks for the gut to go back to normal. It’s strange because with the exception of today, her poops have been great and returned to normal after about a week. I suppose this might be a fluke of sorts. Thankfully her other ones are normal size and nicely rounded.

No more giant/double poops, a few tiny ones though.

It’s good you’re keeping track. To us bunny people, bunny poop is very important. And I’m not joking, it really is.

My partner doesn’t understand why I sometimes pick up a poop or two of theirs and squish it. Just to make sure it’s all okay :p

I’ve had a rummage through their litter trays again and found one big poop from Buttercup, though it’s not as huge as the two monster poops from yesterday. Peanut’s have almost returned to normal size (his have been on the small side since his surgery) I can honestly say I’ve never paid so much attention to faeces as I do now :p

I know it could be due to the recent spay but as her poops did get back to normal up until yesterday, is that still a possibility?

I’m worried in case it’s due to less movement/exercise. Our downstairs is split into two halves (and our house is small) but it’s the only way we can keep her and Peanut separated. But she’s definitely not running around as much. Should I try and bond them sooner to give them both access to the entire place again?

Edit: Of course Buttercup likes to make me think I’m going crazy as soon as I posted this she started running around binky-ing  Hopefully she’ll keep this up!

Sarah, my vet told me this morning that I could expect funny poos for 2 weeks after surgery.

It’s been just over two weeks so I guess it isn’t too far out of the norm. Thanks Jessica
