Hello, I have only been a proud bunny owner for 3 weeks but I keep feeling like I am getting her diet wrong even though all I do is look things up about their diet as that is the LAST thing I want to mess up. I have never owned a rabbit before but have done thorough research although now she is here I feel very apprehensive about her well-being and I have the most beautiful french lop all I want to do for her is what is right so if someone could set me straight on good veggies that I gan give to her at a decent rate without me panicking every time I feed her if that was too much of that vegetable etc.

Any and all other tips welcome. Thank you very much

I think there’s a list of approved veggies for bunnies floating around on here somewhere. I feel the same way with my Charlie. I just started veggies with Charlie maybe a week ago and he seems to be doing well. I started with just a tiny piece of romaine lettuce. He was terrified of it at first but I left it in his room and he ate it. Ever since then I’ve increased the amount just a tiny bit and today he had his first whole piece of romaine. I always just watch to be sure nothing changes in his poops, so far so good. I also introduced basil the other day – just a tiny leaf. He was again apprehensive, but likes it now and gets a medium sized leaf each night. I think what’s most important is taking it slow and watching for changes in their poop. I started with maybe a half inch square of lettuce the first day and just kept increasing the size – that may have been small to start with but it makes me nervous because it’s things he’s never had before.
Good luck! Once you give it the first few times you won’t feel as anxious about it

Here’s the HRS list of suggested vegs for rabbits: http://rabbit.org/suggested-vegetables-and-fruits-for-a-rabbit-diet/ There’s also tips about amounts.

As taylor says, start slow. Introduce one veg at a time, a small amount. If it agrees with the bun, you can add a small piece of another veg. A good starter veg is romaine (as taylor also says).

Thank you very much!! i’ll get some romaine as this seems to be a good veggie that i can feed freely as my girls a bit shy so i like to coax her out with fresh treats . Thank you again for your help, wouldn’t dare have anything happen to my little bun especially if it is something i can prevent.

I keep getting conflicting info on kale…and on romaine for that matter. One site will say kale all day long and that romaine can give wet tail…then the opposite?! Romaine good and kale can be unhealthy in high amount?!? when did veggies become so complicated haha

I’ve just done some asking around if late and lots of research –
My plan for my boy based on this info is to do romaine lettuce hearts 3 nights a week with either basil , fennel ( will keep fennel to only one night) or parsley ( will keep that to one night )
1-2 nights a week I’ll do kale ( no more frequently due to the oxalate (although I’m reading conflicting info saying that it’s actually low in oxalate contrary to belief but to be careful incase im only doing once-twice a week)
One night a week I’ll do carrot top
And last night of the week I’ll do silverbeet ( I believe you call it chard) with either basil or mint

Then ontop of this each night one tablespoon of fruits ( I have a Holland lop so my amount of this many be smaller than yours as he is small size rabbit )
Will rotate that one depending on what I have etc but will either be brocolli ( can be head leaves or stalk) , banana , carrot , apple (no seeds) , peach , apricot

Are Holland lops smaller than mini lops? If so, I think a tablespoon of fruit every night is too much, isn’t it? I’ve not given mine any fruit yet but when I do it’ll only be a small piece a couple of times per week at most.

I feed my buns romaine… Sometimes when they are eating, they stop and open their mouths, which looks like they are gonna vomit? They then resume eating like nothing happened. Anyone experienced this?

Romaine and Green Leaf are great veggies and can be fed everyday. It’s iceberg that is not good for bunnies. It can cause diahrrea and has very little nutrition.
