I have a 4 month old lionhead that was housed w 2 of her sisters. They are in a large 5×4 1/2′ double sided cage. This morning when i went out to feed only two came running. Then i saw her laying in the back section of the cage.. i thought she was dead. Then she lifted her head a little. She was fine yesterday morning and evening . So i took her inside and examined her. She was very weak. She dosent to seem to have anything broken, but the eye on the side she was laying on was matted closed. I used a warm wash cloth and Q tips and cleaned up her eye. Then gave her some water with a medicine dropper. At that point she was almost limp. I gave her more water about 15 min later and after that she could stand on her own verses just flop over like she had been. Now its about 3 hrs since i brought her in. Shes in a small transport cage w hay, a sliver of apple, pellets and water. Shes still a bit wobbly but moving around and drinking good. She does seem to be sitting a bit hunched up. So im confused if its stasis or what? I thought w stasis they stop eating n drinking completely. Should i feed her some canned pumpkin or banana baby food ? Her young age is why i ask, Twinkles was born Aug 4, 2016 and bunnies dont generally start on fresh fruits n vegies till about 6 mos old. Twinkles will be grateful for any thoughts, tips, suggestions or experiences you can share that might help this pretty lil girl. And… Twinkles mama thanks you too ! ( thats me.. lol )

If she normally eats pellets, you can soak some pellets in water and feed her that with a syringe. Pumpkin is good too, banana has sugar that could help perk her up a bit, but don’t give too much since she’s not used to fruit.
Keep her warm, hypothermia is a always a risk with a sick bunny. You. An sit her in your knee with a blanket around her so she gets warmed up by your body heat.
These are things you can do until you can get hold of a vet.

So give her canned pumpkin? Not raw… correct ? I took her out of the little pen to see if shed move around but she didnt. Just sat there hunched up. Shes not shaky n wobbly like earlier but Poor baby looks miserable. She turns circles in the little pen.. like shes tryin to get comfortable but cant. She IS drinking a LOT of water. I’ll try the punkin tonite.. just wanted to be sure i get the right pumpkin.. like that pumpkin pie filling hmm?? had to run to work quick for a bit, so ill pik up the pumpkin on my way home. If i can get her thru the nite ill take her to vet tomorrow morning. I am thinkin more n more stasis, tho no clue why she was stricken w it suddenly. I’m hopeful she will make a full recovery, this mornin when i found her she was probaly just minutes from death so shes improved quite a bit already.

Not pie filling, just plain pumpkin.

It does sound like gas/stasis now, the shifting of position is typical. You can give baby gas drops (simethicone), 1 ml/hour for three hours. But stasis is a very serious conditions so she really should be seen by a vet.

Stasis can happen for a number of reasons, f ex stress. If a bunny gets scared, the PH in it’s gut changes and that changes the composition of the microbial flora in the gut. Gas and a gut slow-down results.
