Buddha is going through his first molt with me. As a bunny mom, I am super paranoid about blockage, especially since he’s a lionhead. He’s been pretty great with brushing up until the shedding has moved mostly near his rear, which I kind of have to sneakily pluck his hairs while petting him since he does NOT want to be brushed there. I do notice hair in his poop. He’s still pooping though, and he eats a ton of hay all day long. I’d also like to think that his free roam lifestyle helps keep things moving. He doesn’t eat a lot of pellets as it is (definitely prefers his greens and hay). I do work at PetSmart and picked up some of those Oxbow Digestion bites to see if it’ll keep things running smooth. I just get worried because he is a very clean rabbit (totally awesome with grooming himself). I bought a papaya at Whole Foods…but it was the first fruit he ever denied! I also tried it, and I must say…I wasn’t a fan either, but I’ll eat it. lol.

Anyone else get paranoid in this time?

My Netherlands dwarf is small so grooming is a litttle more minimal then other breeds, BUT I do get really paranoid when she gets fur in her eyes. Sometimes a piece of fur will get stuck in her eye for days at a time but she will eventually groom it out. I just hope it doesn’t damage her eyes.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone! I always freak out about blockages in the GI tract. My Netherlands dwarf doesn’t have as much fur as a lionhead, but he HATES me brushing him. The best I can do is the pet the fur off, and discretely pluck out the tufts sticking out. Just keep brushing and deal with the fur that ends up everywhere (I’m serious, I found tufts in my pencil case this morning at school haha).
