        Hi everyone,

we have a small white bunny in the past 8 months. She is less than a year old. At some point we decided to spay her.

We did that 6 days ago and surgery itself went ok. After surgery, she received antibiotics for a 3 days and painkillers few days.

She didn’t want to eat first 12h, but our vet said that is kind of normal and I saw posts here that a lot of people had similar issue.

However, even after 24h her appetite didn’t came back so we had to feed her using syringe. We made a mash out of pellets and feed her. Then we tried with Fibreplex to wake her appetite up, but no luck with that either.

She is drinking almost normal amount of water, where we add probiotic and she is eating small amount of hay per day and according to that, she normal pee, but barely pooping (just a really small amount of poop comparing how she did it before surgery).

She is jumping out of her cage, running in the house – not like before, but she doesn’t look like she is sick or something.

We have tried with her favorite granules and pellets, sweets, fruits and vegetables, but she just smell it and leave it. As I said, on her own she just eat small amount of hay (which we have few types as well).

You will agree that is not normal to feed her using syringe 6 days after surgery, so if someone had anything similar we would really appreciate advice from you guys.

        Thank you in advance!

        Vlad

No, def not normal to go that long without an appetite. Have you talked to your vet about her still not eating? She may need some more painkillers.

          Does her incision look okay?

            Thank you for your answer.

Incision look ok. Vet also confirms that.

Last night she gave her some meds for her stomach and something against hairballs just in case. She also checked her teeth and tongue and everything is ok there.

It is extremely stressful for her and for us as well when we feed her using syringe

That’s why I’m asking here if anyone else had a similar problem and what else we can do here?

            Thanks,

            Vlad

I’d just continue feeding her by syringe and offering her any and all treats she wants. For the first couple days all my Eve would eat was papaya, which isn’t good in large amounts, but hey– something is better than nothing. Not much else you can do unless otherwise instructed by your vet:/

Bramble was similar after his neuter he wouldn’t eat independently for about three or four days and it was over a week before he was eating enough on his own. Our vet said its just some bunnies don’t bounce back as well as others unfortunately, we just carried on with fiberplex, meloxicam, ranitidine and daily vet visits for a week then reduced the fiberplex gradually as he started eating on his own. He was perfectly fine after that and it seemed that nothing was really wrong as such he was just having a hard time bouncing back from the surgery really.

Yes, I’m sorry for not posting. Apparently, I didn’t select to receive notifications :/

Anyway, after almost 10 days she started eating on her own. It was really stressful for us, but seams like she just needed some more time.

Everything is back to normal now. Thank you all for support
