One of my girls has been sneezing so my vet said to start on her on some antibiotics. She said to crush it up and mix it with applesauce. What else have you guys used to give medication? I dont usually give fruit so much and the meds are given twice a day.

You could mix in a little water and syringe it into her mouth. Then offer some yummy herbs to take the taste away. The med might be bitter but rabbits do okay with bitter, I think. Some of the greens they favour are quite bitter.

Or you could puree up some herbs and mix with that also.

Personally, I would syringe feed regardless of what it is mixed with – to ensure they get the entire dose.

Mixing it with the apple sauce sounds like a good idea, but you could always syringe it. For stubborn rabbits who struggle a lot, I’d suggest to wrap them in a towel and properly feed them through the syringe. You could research this method a bit more, but it’s pretty simple. What I usually do is measure the correct dosage and put it onto a lettuce leaf, my bun eats it right up. You could also “sandwich” the medicine in between two leaves to avoid it wiping/running off. Alternatively, herbs that have a stronger flavour can be used instead of lettuce to mask the flavour of the medicine.

Thanks for the ideas! I bought a pill crusher and she’s been taking it very well with fruits or veggies. I mix it up and use a spoon. She gobbles it right up
