My bun Arthur has been displaying aggression. He gets a lot of play time and when it’s time for him to go back to his cage that’s when his aggression comes out the most. He comes at me and tries to bite and growls at me. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I can’t leave him out because he chews everything. Recently he ruined my favorite pair of boots. He has toys to play with. I just don’t get it. Does it come down to he needs neutered? I have 2 other threads on here where you all habe asked if he’s neutered. I feel like a failure of a bunny mommy. Please help!!

How much play time outside of his cage does he get? Does he play with his toys at all?

Yeah he tears them up fast. I’ve been giving him home made toys too. He gets anywhere from 4 to 7 hours.

How old is Arthur? It could be a combination of being a young, mischievous bunny and being hormonal.

Oh yeah, that’s prime naughty time.

Not only is he a teenager, ready to explore and do “fun” things, but his system is being flooded with hormones. So any natural naughtiness that comes with being a teenager is magified by the hormones.

I guess to answer your question, will neutering solve the problem? The answer is not 100% because he is a young bunny. But neutering will help and, in many cases, help a lot because it’s removing that magnification.

I just feel like he hates me. Besides neutering, is there anything else I can do to help?

Wait it out. Most people don’t though. Especially if there is spraying involved. LOL

What do you mean wait it out? Will he grow out of it?

He might grow out of it – chances are the aggression will calm down if he gets neutered but as for chewing, he might just be a chewer for life!

Yes and no. They often mellow some as they get older and past the initial hormone surge of puberty. But if they are not neutered, then the hormones will always be there. They often still leave territorial poops, spray now and then, hump things occasionally, do love dances/circling occasionally, etc. Some are worse than others of course and the wait and see game can take up to 1.5 to 2 years. Some people have chosen not to neuter if their bun’s behavior isn’t bothersome and there are no plans for a second bunny.

If you plan to get your bunny a friend, it’s better to neuter when they are younger.

Also, I should note that these same rules do not apply to girls. Not spaying carries with it a huge health risk.
