Our rabbits Mac and Mist are mates and had three litters together. They have never lived together but are housed close by. Mac was recently neutered as we want them to live together. When they spent some time together a month later he mounted her and it resulted in a false pregnancy. We want to bond them together but don’t want another false pregnancy to occur as this does not seem fair to her. I wondered if anyone has done this successfully? We can spay her but it’s just $230 that we would rather not spend if we don’t have to.
Is it possible for a neutered male to live with an unspayed female without multiple false pregnancies?
        Thank you!

You wont be able to bond them without spaying your female Not only will it allow them to bond, but females are prone to uterine cancer and the only way to avoid the pain of that is to have her spayed

You should spend the money to get her neutered – uterine cancer is a huge risk for females and spaying is the only way to stop that risk.

As for bonding – from what I’ve learned here, bonding is not likely to work if one is full of hormones and the other isn’t.

I have two 9 1/2 year old rabbits, one is a neutered male and the other is an unspayed female. They both get a hold very well and always have, she will still occasionally mount him but he doesn’t mind at all. They are best friends and I could never take them apart. My female never had a false pregnancy. Good luck!

Thanks for your replys. After reading about your success hduquaine I settled them together and so far they are very happy living together. They’ve been together about 2 weeks now with no problems. I’m watching for a false pregnancy which I’ll expect next week if it’s going to happen – if so we’ll have to have Mist spayed, but if not, they seem very happy. Thank you all for your comments.

                  What about preventing uterine cancer?
