I have a 6 m/o Netherland Dwarf who recently starting tilting his head backwards when he eats. Kind of like humans do when we have a stuffed nose to try to eat/swallow/breathe. I don’t think it’s head tilt.

Could this be related to teeth problems (evading pain)? He doesn’t chew on ANYTHING to keep his teeth down. I’ve tried sticks, Snak Shak, timothy hay items, and he doesn’t like to chew period! He is a super hay eater, which keeps his teeth down to a degree.

Could he have a cold and when he eats something needs to drain? I haven’t noticed any leaky eyes/runny nose/sneezing.

        Any insights appreciated

Head tilting back is usually a sign that a rabbit is having a hard time breathing

I agree with Mikey. It is usually a sign that the bunny is having difficulty breathing. I think it should be looked into by a vet. It doesn’t really sound like evading pain, more like some type of obstruction of the airways.

Thank you! One of our rabbits is getting neutered Tuesday. I’ll see if the other can be seen or if she has any ideas!

I haven’t heard any wheezing, but I did notice his teeth are odd sizes. One bottom tooth looks broken, where the other one is pretty long.

Best of luck at the vet apt!
