So I’ve been debating getting my bunny reggie (a neutered male) a friend. I’ve already checked with the humane society and they’ll let me have a bunny “speed date” for him to meet possible friends. My queston is, I live in a studio apartment (there”s only one room and a bathroom) and reggie is free to explore all of it. When I work on bonding in the future there won’t be any neutral space because its all technically reggie’s. I’m not sure how to go about bonding after the initial meeting at the humane society since the while apartment is reggie’s. Any advice on creating neutral space?

This is a tough one. I would start making the bathroom a room where Reggie can’t access. Keep the door closed, and give it a thorough clean to try and eliminate his odour. It’s not ideal but you really have to make the most out of what you have. You could also buy some things like a brand new fleece that doesn’t smell of either one and use that in the bathroom when you’re trying to bond. Alternatively a new storage tub lined with the fleece blanket could work for the first few dates since they don’t need much space or time in the space for the first few dates.

We didn’t have any neutral space when we brought our second bun home so I bought a new fleece and just set the pen up in the hall using the fleece as flooring, I made sure that neither bun got in the hall on his own to keep it as ‘their’ space from that point on. It worked really well and my boys bonded in a week!
