Bunny toys and more???

Hello everyone, this is my first bunny that I own myself. I had 2 when I was very young but I don’t really remember that well. So well say I’m a first time bunny owner. I got my boy Junior in August. I was told he was a dwarf rabbit but I don’t believe he is. He’s quite big now. But I love him anyway. If anyone could maybe help me out on hints to what breed he may be that would be awesome as well!

But this is going to be his first Christmas. So I wanna make it awesome for him. I already got him a GIANT cage. He was in a small one and I was going to build him one but my fiancée bought him a 4’x6′ cage as an early present. Now he needs some toys and activities to go in it.

In your opinion, that you’ve seen what are the best toys for bunnies? He has a toy carrot and cement block thing from petco from when I first got him… he rarely ever touches them. Also digging boxes… would sand or shredded paper be better? For his digging needs.

Thank you and that sounds like mine lol. A tunnel would be good. I seen them at pet store but I didn’t think he’d fit (rabbit ones) especially since I read that they grow until about a year old. Old. He’s approx 4 or 5 months. Maybe 6. He’s still a baby.. always gonna be.
In the corner, yes that’s a litter box.. I feel it’s too small he seems so hunched in it I had a hay rack for him but he managed to break off the hinges for it. Maybe the ball would work better and be more fun, good idea the house in the cage is temp for now… it’s one of his dog-siblings but ever since I got him he liked to go in it and climb on it more than the chihuahua so I put it in there until I got something that fit a little better in his cage.
With blankets… would that be good for some traction as well as comfort? I have chloroplast on the bottom and he slides around a lot. Sometimes he seems to enjoy it.. meaning he’ll running from side to side and do a slide at the end. But when he gets up from laying down his feet have no traction.

Oh I know what you’re talking about he loves to destroy lol. he’d love that. And the toilet paper thing.. I tried something similar.. but he dumped the hay and nibbled the roll first lol. I mean it worked for his entertainment I guess

He’s certainly very handsome! He’s definitely not a dwarf. His coloration looks somewhat like the chinchilla breed, but it’s not always easy to tell from photos.

Not all rabbits care to play with toys that much. Mine always seem to lose interest in them quickly. Willow balls have already been mentioned as toys. There are also straw balls.

You do have to make sure the litter box is an adequate size, otherwise he may not use it, especially as he gets bigger.

But her favorite toy right now is black plastic bag. I cut it open so she can’t get stuck or hurt herself, but she shakes it and pounces on it, I think she likes the crinkly noise it makes

Hey there and welcome to the forum, Junior is very cute His new cage is fantastic, lots of space to hop around and flop.

I would definitely recommend a larger litter box, a nice big cat one, or an under bed storage container work great for rabbit litter boxes. They like to eat hay while they poop so with a bigger box you can sometimes just put hay in at one end and then the litter in the rest of it.

As for toys, there are lots of options. Paper towel and toilet paper tubes, stuffed with hay, cut into a ringlet and dangled from the roof. Cardboard boxes (tape removed) with two holes cut in it. Junior will have fun making the holes to their required dimensions Cat tunnels as mentioned, plastic stacking cups (for babies), my pair like to unstack them and throw them around. You can also hide treats between the different layers. Plastic baby keys (Luna favourite), wooden barrel roller rabbit toy, wooden bendy bridge/tunnel, sisal carrot. Paper bag stuff with hay.

In terms of flooring, coroplast can certainly be too slippery. Fleece blankets are a great safe option for bedding, other blankets and towels have long threads which can be a danger of entanglement or be dangerous when ingested. The only trouble you will have with the fleece, is that it too will slide around a lot on the coroplast. My cage has two levels and on the top level I hold the fleece down at the edges with clips, on the bottom level where I can’t do that I anchor the fleece under heavier items (the litter box on one side and a plastic hidey box at the other end). The fleece still gets moved around sometimes but it helps for their traction.
