I recently became the owner of a rabbit after a little girl I used to nanny and I found her in the front yard of their house.  We looked everywhere for the owner, posted signs and even online but no one claimed her so I think she may have been dumped.  As you can assume I became attached and she now lives with me.  However, she is my first rabbit so I am just curious as to what breed she might be.

        Any info helps, thanks!

To me it looks like a Dutch or American. It probably isn’t pure breed and may have other breeds in his/her makeup. From the picture, the rabbit looks quite large, like my rabbit (8 pound black female) and I looked for a very long time to determine her breed and determined she was a Dutch or American. Hope I helped!!

What a beauty! It’s great that you found her and gave her a home . As for the breed, I’d agree and say American mix as well, but it would really help to weight her. Once you now her weight, you can single out some breeds.

American is a rare breed, although there have been efforts recently to revive the breed.. She looks like a mix to me.

BTW, her coloring looks like frosted pearl.

                  How big is she?

She’s beautiful! Just love that colouring!

Thank you all for your input!

The comment on coloring was very helpful too. She weighs around 6lbs. I figure she is a mix as well because our very best guess is that someone bought her as a cheap pet at a gas station near where she was found that sells rabbits, chickens and ducks for food, got bored of her and dumped her.

Whatever she is she sure is cute.

                      One more quick question..

She has quite a large dewlap, are they normally this big or does hers being very large mean something?

My rabbits dewlap is just as large. It’s normal for all female rabbits. However, I’ve read that if you spay your rabbit, the size of the dewlap may decrease in size. The dewlap gets so big so they can easily reach the fur to line their nest when they have babies. Obviously, I don’t recommend breeding rabbits since there are so many. I do recommend spaying her if you haven’t already to prevent medical issues later in life! I will post some photos of my rabbits on my profile before she got a dewlap and after!! I thought my rabbit was overweight until I brought her to the vet. As for breed, if you’re curious about how large she will grow, it depends on her age. Most rabbits finish growing after 9-12 months, but not all do. My rabbit is full grown.

My little Bridge Bun, Olivia, had a dewlap, and was spayed at around 1 years old and it completely disappeared afterwards. Although, she lost a bit of weight oo which also helped.
