Has anyone had luck teaching their rabbit to high five or give paw? I realize it is probably one of the more difficult things to train but I feel like Olaf has the potential. I’ve seen the two videos below but wanted to find out if any of you had been successful or had any tips? He is already used to clicker training for spin, tunnel, and jump. It will take a long time to train it, I’m sure, but I’d love to have him learn it.

I’ve thought about doing this as a fun thing, but have never gotten around to it. I am also curious on how to go about this.

Have you any video of him doing his other moves?

How did you go about training for those? Did you use a target stick? Im thinking what may be tricky for teaching to “give a paw” is that one hand is holding the target stick, the other holding treats? So you don’t have a hand free to put out with the palm up.
Could you hold the reward in your lips and drop it down when needed? Or is he past treat stage for training?

Sorry I’m so late to reply! Thank you both for responding. Here’s a link to the only video I have of Olaf doing his tricks and general play time. I think I may have already posted it somewhere a while back. It was pretty early on so now most of the tricks have become compulsory. I put the tunnel down and he just runs back and forth frantically. Gimmegimmegimme! You’re ruining all the fun, Olaf! :]

I don’t use a target stick so I don’t know if that puts us at a disadvantage or not. I think the trickiest part is exactly what you mentioned, Jersey. He will follow upwards for a treat but I don’t think he realizes he is reaching out his paws sometimes so the click doesn’t really secure the idea that he’s completed the trick. I’m going to try sitting on the floor and attempting this when he is up on the couch. Maybe that way he’ll understand it is less about moving up than it is reaching out and giving the paw(s).

I’ll let you know how it goes!

That is a fantastic video! I went to give it a Thumps Up and discovered I already had, so I must have seen it last time you posted it. Short memory!

It sounds like you have found a solution to approach this, clever thinking!

Lol. I just realised I wrote “Thumps Up” Lol !! It’s one typo Im not in a hurry to edit for a change. Obviously I meant thumbs up.

Thumps up kinda makes it sound like I disapproved in bunny-style or something!

Ha! Thank you so much. I really appreciate it and definitely wish “Thumps Up!” was a real thing. :]

I planned to make more but he’s always on the go and stops the fun as soon as he knows someone is watching. Narf!
