Hi there everyone! I already made a welcome post, but I just adopted a Netherland Dwarf rabbit as of last night. He is an intact male at about 1.5 years old. All of the reading I have done has suggested that I should leave him in the cage for a few days to get acquainted to his surroundings, but he clearly wants out! He’s biting the cage bars non stop, nudging the litter box everywhere, running around …

Do I just let him whine about it and leave him alone? Or do I start letting him out in an enclosed space? His cage is certainly large enough, as it is a 70 pound dog crate with another level and more toys than I could know what to do with.

        Thank you. <3

I’d let him out in an enclosed space. A young bun is full of energy.
You want to start litter training right away. Take sth he’s peed on + some poops and put in a litterbox. He’ll probably tell you where he wants it by peeing in a spot – rabbits often like to choose their toilet-spots themselves.

I second Bam, but be careful as intact rabbits are prone to bad litter habits. I experienced this with Autumn, I still let her free roam but it was a lot of cleaning

Also make sure there are no electrical cords where you let him out. You can get cable covers at IKEA or online, but until you have proofed all cords, don’t let your bun have access to any of them. They live cords and it can get expensive very quickly -plus the fire hazard, of course.

He’s probably curious to explore his new surroundings. I would let him out of the cage for 30mins every so often in an enclosed area with supervision as Bam has stated. But definitely be ready to clean up after your bun. He will prob mark his territory.
