Buffy is not well litter trained at all. The shelter said she was, but she’s such a little primadonna she only likes to poop and pee on soft things… Which mostly means furniture. That’s a whole other topic though.

Anyway, because of this, I see pretty much every single one of her poops up close, and because I lost my Teddy boy to stasis a month ago, I’m super paranoid about them.

Once a day (at about 6pm, like clockwork), she’ll produce one mushy, unformed cecal pellet that clumps two or more fecal pellets together. Today there was obvious mucous on the cecal. Other than this, her poops are normal. There’s never more than one unformed cecal a day.

I’ve also noticed that her poops are quite sticky — could that mean there’s more mucous in her intestinal track than I originally thought? I feel like it’s worth mentioning that I’m getting to these fecal pellets pretty much instantly due to the litter training problems we’re having with her, so are poops supposed to be sticky when they’re straight from the butt?

She does seem to be shedding, as quite a lot of her poops are strung together, but she has no issues passing them. She refuses to let me brush her dewlap or her butt, and that’s where I can see a lot of loose fluff.

Because Ted passed away during a large earthquake, much of the city (including our vet) was closed for about three days after he passed, and we didn’t get the chance to get a necropsy done. Now I’m paranoid he had something contagious (like coccidiosis) that Buffy may have contracted. I’m not sure if I’m being paranoid or if this warrants a vet trip ASAP.

Hi there! Maybe you could post some pictures of her poops?

They’re totally normal now! Aside from the strung-together ones caused by her shed. I think it happened because she was spayed at the shelter a week before we got her, so she was still dealing with that

Sorry you didn’t get a response to this sooner. Glad it seems to have cleared up.
