Today i brought new bunny home. I put her in her new home and gave her a ball of hay and water in a bowl. Its been 6 hours and she didnt even touch it. Its night time now and i cant get her to eat. Is it because she is used to different kind of food and drinking water from bottle? Or could she be in a shock from long drive (we drove for an hour and a half)? Will she get better once she gets used to enviroment?

Rabbits who dont eat or drink for 8+ hours are in GI Stasis. She needs to be seen by a rabbit certified vet asap or she may not make it. Until you can get her seen by a vet you can give her pellet mash (pellets soaked in water, added to a feeding syringe) by hand feeding her every 2 or so hours. Same with water. Fill a feeding syringe with water and try to give it to her every few hours. If she doesnt want to drink or eat from the syringe, you an add a bit of pure cranberry juice or sugar free apple juice to the water and mash to give it a better flavor

Mikey is correct. If a bunny doesn’t eat, its intestines will stop moving. That’s known as GI stasis. GI stasis has a high mortality. A vet can give the bunny sub q fluids and meds to restart the intestines.

Have you tried offering a treat? (If she’s very young she might not be used to treats though). Pellet mash in a syringe is good. It’s easiest to syringe feed if you are 2 persons. One holds the bun in his/her lap, the bun should be sitting up, never on its back (risk of choking). The other person stabilizes the head gently and inserts the syringe behind/at the side of the upper front teeth (there’s quite a wide gap there). Then you slowly push little by little and make sure the bunny swallows between pushes.

It’s probably stress from the drive/move to a new place that has made her lose her appetite. If she gets sth in her tummy, she might feel much better very soon.

Okay. When i saw her in the morning she did poop so she had to eat (?) maybe she was just really scared from the drive and new enviroment. She still doesn’t eat when im watching but her hay ball was moved in the night.

                I’m glad she pooped!

Hopefully she’ll eat so you see it every soon. Do you have pellets for her? How old is she (ca)?

She is around 6 months old. I didnt buy the right pellets (saw it at home i grabbed the wrong box its for quinea pigs and its entirely different that it should be) but i did what i read in another site to mash 1 part vegetables and 2 part hay really good with watter and srynge feed her that. She did have a little bit of that..

                    That’s good!

The main difference between guinea pig food and rabbit food is, as a rule, that guinea pig food has vitamin C in it. Guinea pigs can’t synthesize vit C, so you shouldn’t feed rabbit food to a piggie. The other way around is normally fine though. Avoid müesli-type food though, you want plain pellets (better for tummy and teeth).

6 months is good, I was afraid she perhaps was a tiny little baby, those are of course more fragile.
