My bunny with megacolon has for as long as I’ve had her had large dark colored soft poops.  This last week they’ve turned light colored and bone dry.  No change in diet forever, unless she’s eating a lot more cardboard.  Still has a healthy appetite.  Seems happy.  Should I be concerned, what steps should I take?

        Thanks

How about her drinking habits, has that changed at all? Does she have a bottle or bowl?

If she’s been eating more cardboard I would probably take that away. That can bind them up.

Do you give lactulose as part of treating her condition? It helps pull water into the gut.

I know this is given for some mega colon bunnies but as I understand it, there are variations in the condition.

It was a post by redbunbun that helped me understand there may be different types of megacolon. To quote her:

Azerane, Sukka is about ten months old now. She’s got quite a bad case of megacolon, so her symptoms have come on very early and very strong. She’s more prone to wet-gut episodes and gas, as opposed to the giant, dry, oval fecals people tend to associate with “classic” megacolon. MC symptoms can vary wildly even in the same rabbit during the course of the same day, but bunnies tend to either tend towards dry-gut (“classic”) megacolon or wet-gut megacolon. Both come with their own set of issues.

            From this thread: https://binkybunny.com/tabid/54/aft/145063/Default.aspx
Her bunny Sukka has passed away now but redbunbun learned a ton about this condition through her.

I have a megacolon bun as well and when the poops are too dry it’s usually not a good sign especially if they get smaller. Try giving more greens and sometimes to hydrate them I give them diluted coconut water (pure coconut water such as vita coco or Zico + water mixed in). Gets them to drink more

Nothing to worry about tho if they’re acting normally. Just make sure he/she is pooping daily

It’s been a few days since your post, so how are the poops now?
