I have two bunnies. One I have had for about a year, the other a few months. They bonded within three weeks, they live together now and get along great! Its the cutest. I love being a bunny mom.

My girl, Lucy, is a licker. She is the one I have had for a while and she will just lick lick lick my face, or my hands, or my feet. Anything she can! Its cute but I stop her sometimes and she seems to get mad that I stop her! I know that in bunny culture licking and grooming is a sign of affection, so I let her do it, but when there are people around I feel weird letting my rabbit just lick my face for minutes straight! haha

Does that happen to anyone else?!

Also- so I spend a lot of time on the floor with the bunnies. And I like to lay on my stomach and pet them. They will groom each other right in front of my face, and sometimes Lucy will turn and start grooming me and poor Thumper just has to sit there because she left him to groom me! Is that okay? Or am i messing up some kind of bunny hierarchy and disturbing them. Thumper doesn’t seem to be mad, he sits there, or will turn and sniff me and walk off (he has only licked me once or twice so far).

        What do you guys think?

My bun Charlie does the same thing with licking my face – so you’re not alone! He would lick all day if I let him and starts nibbling as if he’s “grooming” me. Totally get you with not wanting them to do lick you forever with people around – so strange to people who don’t get it! They just love you – you’re doing something right! I’ve heard that a lot of bunnies won’t lick their ‘person’ so I always feel thankful that Charlie trusts me enough to do it, but totally make him stop too.
I only have one so can’t answer the second part of your question – just wanted you to know you’re not the only one with a crazy licking bunny

Anyone who gets bunny kisses is lucky! I say if they want to kiss you, let them! My first bunny, Stormy, was a mega kisser. I lost him several years ago and have had no bunny kisses since.

Cute! My bun hops on my lap and likes to be petted briefly. She runs away shortly after.
Licking and wanting to groom you is the ultimate sign of love from a bunny!! It is always ok.

I don’t really think that you’re messing up the bunny hierarchy, and if Thumper doesn’t seem too upset then I wouldn’t stress about it. Bunny kisses are great! Sometimes when I pull my hand away from Ellie, she’ll dig a bit at my pants or nudge my hand because she wants to keep licking. So in a sense as long as Lucy isn’t being aggressive about you stopping her licking, and Thumper isn’t jealous, continue on getting those bunny kisses!

Dorothy loves to be pet (she tooth purrs the whole time and licks you back), but she does not like to be held. She doesn’t like to be restrained, but when she’s relaxing she likes to be around me and act like she’s a hooman … watch tv with me, she begs for human food all the time even if she doesn’t know what it is or like the smell. I do think she sees me as slightly more than the main human that feeds her though because she flops against me and licks my hands and particularly my bare feet a TON! So I know my presence at least puts her at ease or gives her some sort of comfort.

Chom does give kisses to me, but only when he feels like it. And he only lets me pet him if he feels like it, too. He’s especially friendly in the mornings (makes sense, as they are crepuscular creatures. ) I spend a lot of time on the floor too while playing with him.

Chewie also enjoys long grooming sessions, to the point where if we’re on Skype, my dad jokes that I’ll never have to bathe again
My philosophy is that you can never have too many bunny kisses, and since grooming (giving and receiving) is good for a bun’s immune system and emotional/psychological well being, who am I to get in the way?

Thanks for your stories guys! It’s so great. Having a pet bunny is the BEST! I’m glad I’m not alone in this bunny obsession world.

Guin bum-rushes my feet when I come into the room. She nudges my ankles to demand petting. It’s really cute. She gets all flat and snuggly. Lancelot used to bumrush me and buzz when he was in better health and could see. Morgana allows me to pet her, Avalon stays away from me. Lancelot licks my arm when I have him on my lap.
