My Badger was neutered yesterday, and his wounds looked pretty normal yesterday: red and swollen. With my other two rabbits, by the second day most if not all of the swelling went down within 48 hours after their neuters. But Badgers right area is still very swollen and warm. How long do rabbits normally swell after a neuter? I plan on calling the vet tomorrow if the swelling is still as bad to make sure nothing is wrong. Hes still eating, playing, drinking, pooping, peeing, ect pretty normally. The only time you can really see that he is in pain is during the last hour before his pain killers run out, before he gets another dose of it

It will be different with every bunny, but normally I would think you would see it going down a bit by now. Is he picking at it at all? Is there anything in his cage that could be irritating the area?

He was picking at it the first day, so hes been coned since. He doesnt mind the cone since he learned he can fling poop and hay at everyone, lol. The swelling is a lot better now. It was pretty bad the first few days, and only dramatically went down yesterday after i started doing cold compresses and neosporin

Vienna’s Henry was very swollen for a good long while – check out her thread if you have a chance. It can happen, to be honest. Neuters are not as invasive as spays, but there’s still quite a lot of trauma to the leftover tissue. As long as Badger’s temp is nice and stable, there’s no obvious discharge or changes for the worse, and he eats/drinks/poops/wees/plays etc, my advice would be give him time so the fluids can drain/reabsorb and the tissue can heal. Obviously if anything happens that sends up red flags, have the vet take a look again (the good one, not the numpty) (((continued healing for mr bunbun)))

I had no idea swelling for so long was normal since my other two, after their neuters, the swelling went down completely by the 2nd day and everything was fine. Badger is doing well though. The swelling is mostly gone today, theres only a bit near the bruised part on the right side, but thats about it. I took his cone off a bit ago and he hasnt touched either wound yet so hopefully he will be having his first full day with the cone off

Henry was kept at the vets for three whole days because they were worried about an enormous haematoma on one side (about the size of a grape!).
I really should have noted how long it lasted for but I think it was starting to show reduction after three weeks!
After he was out of the danger zone I suppose I stopped looking. LOL.
And the last time I thought about looking, they had both disappeared back up where they belong, in hiding….

Thanks Mikey. So am I (and the vets too i think) ! Maybe it was because he was 18months old and not a youngster or maybe not, but it didnt stop him bouncing and binkyflying as normal….
