        Hi!

I’ve noticed that since I got my bunny spayed she’s been drinking a lot more water than normal. When I refill the 250 ml water bottle it lasts less than day, so she could be drinking almost 300 ml a day. She weights 1200 g, more or less. Is that too much water?

I don’t see anything wrong with her. She eats hay and poops perfectly, she’s active (and lazy) and doesn’t seem to have any other sign of illness.

        What do you think? =S

How much does she pee? Does that correlate with her intake? Is it hot where you are? (Or is the heating on high?) Is she eating less greens?

Oh for reference, my buns drink around 200-300ml each per day, Buttercup weighs 1.24kg and Peanut is roughly the same. They are only just starting on eating greens though, I give them romaine lettuce that I wash and leave quite wet.

She pees more frecuently than normal, but I don’t see her in the litterbox all day. It’s not hot here (18º Celsius at night and 22 during the day), and I don’t give her greens regularly, just a couple of leaves from time to time.

Edit: in the last 4 hours she has drank about 100 ml…

According to the internet, rabbits drink around 50-100ml per day per kg of body weight. So ideally she would likely be drinking 150ml per day. Do you feed her any leafy greens or veggies, or is her diet just hay and pellets? A completely dry diet would result in a higher water intake, however it is unusual that you are seeing this change after her spay.

She has drank 200 ml during the night… my god o.o
I don’t see any unusual in her rather than the high water intake.
I don’t usually give her veggies, she eats plenty of hay and some pellets everyday, and sometimes we give her green leaves, a small piece of fruit or dry herbs.

My bun drinks quite a bit too, and she’s been spayed within the last month. I don’t know if it’s the result of her spay because I adopted her a few days after she had been spayed. She’s totally healthy otherwise.

How recent is the spay for your bun? Check the incision for heat, redness, swelling and seepage. An infection could definitely result in high water intake.

I got her spayed more than a month ago, her incision is completly healed :3
I’m thinking it could be caused by the lack of hormones?

I’m in the same situation. Her incision is fully healed and furring over, and yet she still drinks lots of water. I guess as long as they’re acting healthy and the urine looks normal? If you can, have her checked out by a vet. I can’t at this time, although if anything changes with her I will.

Your bun is super cute by the way.
