Hey guys. My fiance discovered that a domestic bunny has been living at his work. According to coworkers she has been out the for at least 5 years. We have had a live trap out there for almost a week and have tried baiting with all sorts of things. (Banana, apple, cilantro, parsley, red lettuce, carrots, alfalfa hay, bunny poop, shredded wheat, oats, dried herbal mix, banana treats) we have had zero luck and I am starting to get discount. I know a lot of people have suggested the xpen method but j don’t think it is possible with this rabbit because as soon as she sees someone she bolts so there is no way we could get close enough to use the xpen. I live in owosso, MI. Winter is coming and I don’t want her to suffer through another one. I am desperate here!

Hi Sloan. You might want to track the rabbit. If possible see where it darts off to, then you can find out where it takes shelter. Are you sure the rabbit is wild? Most domesticated rabbits can barely last a week in the wild, much less five years and in winter conditions. If this is a domesticated breed, this sure is one talented bunny!

As in living in Minnesota, i would know just how bad it gets. Poor rabbit.

Yes I am 100% sure she is domesticated she is all black with a few white patches. I tried to add photos but they were too large. I have no idea how she has survived this long.

That’s impressive if she’s managed survive this long. Is the area fenced so that predators are limited?

Perhaps she’s made a home under the building?

It sounds as if you’ve read the “how to catch a stray” articles. Since she’s been there a long time, she will probably be more difficult to lure then most. Could you try leaving food trail up to the trap but not in it initially? Just so she approaches it several times (hopefully) first.

Even if not successful capturing her, putting out food will better her chances of surviving another winter. Maybe alfalfa hay and some rolled oats but nothing to far from her current diet.

Have you seen any evidence of her taking any food put out?

Yes we have done the trail and she has eaten some. The area is fenced in and I’m pretty sure that is the only reason she has survived this long. We attempted to catch her today using a pen but failed miserably. She bolted before we even got close. I am afraid she won’t come back now
