        Hi all,

Need some advice for my poor bun that may have a blocked tear duct. We were prescribed an NSAID eye drop by our vet, who is not totally rabbit savvy, so I want to be 100% sure before using it.

It is called Indocollyre (Indometacin), and is dropped into the eye once every day for a week. There is little to no information online, so I have no idea if it is even used on rabbits regularly.

Please, if you have any advice or experience, let me know, and Hero the bunny will thank you very much!

        Attachment of package below

        Cheers

        Theo

It’s a NSAID. Medirabbit lists it under “safe” pain relievers, but there are no notes other than maximum dosage. I have not heard of using it for rabbits, but not everything can be administered in the form of an eye drop. You’ll often see antibiotic eye drops prescribed for rabbits that are not the typical, well-known antibiotics as well.

Something that can help that’s not Rx is lukewarm strong camomile tea. Dab a moistened cotton sock or something on the bun’s affected eye as often as possible to help unblock the tear duct

Thanks for all your input – and thanks Q8Bunny for the alternative suggestion, I am always up for other treatments so I will give this a try. I think the drops are safe too, but it was strange to get a medication I had not heard of before with rabbits in mind.

So we have tried the medication. I’m not sure if it is doing much good – As a matter of fact Hero’s eye is producing MORE liquid since we gave it to her. I have ceased for now incase it is irritating her. Will be trying home remedies such as Echinacea and Chamomile until the next vet visit…
