        Hello All!

So, I have been to tractor supply multiple pet stores and have looked online!

How come there is no such thing as a bulk bag of TIMOTHY based pellets!

I am only able to find big bags of alfalfa based pellets. Where I live the only timothy based pellets are in 5 pound bags and are no less then 10 dollars. thats RIDICULOUS! I cannot afford that with two rabbits! it goes so quickly!

Does anyone here know of any places that sell bulk bags of timothy based pellets?

The pellets do not need to be Timothy hay based, but they certainly should be grass hay based, of which alfalfa is not. It’s very common for large quantity bags to be alfalfa because the big bags are more commonly bought by breeders and breeding does and growing kits benefit from the extra protein and calcium in the alfalfa based pellets.

Here in Aus, our Timothy pellets only come in 5 pound bags also, but we have one brand that makes a fescue hay based pellet which they sell in sizes up to 6kg. Most pet owners don’t have more than one or two bunnies, so the higher cost of timothy pellets would probably mean that bigger bags wouldn’t sell through fast enough. For me a 5 pound bag lasts about 2 months with two bunnies.

Are you in the US? I buy most of my pet supplies from Drs. Foster & Smith. They have 25 pound bags of Oxbow Adult Essentials, which are timothy based. They also have 5 and 10 pound bags. They are on sale right now.
            http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6067+10381+11257+33941&pcatid=33941

They have free shipping at $19, so if you got the 25 pound bag, which is $26.39 on sale, it would be shipped free.

If you are changing brands of pellets, you are supposed to do so slowly. The first week you mix 25% new pellets with 75% old, the next week, mix half and half, then the following week mix 75% new with 25% old, then all new pellets after that. Although, I have given new rabbits Oxbow right from the start, since I adopted them and either didn’t know what brand they had been fed or it was a cheap mix with seeds that I didn’t want to use.
